In 1971 he set up SIET with a donation of $1m and since then over 1,000 promising Scots have received over £2m in grants to further their education and careers. These went to individuals studying in the areas of broadcast journalism, sound technology, documentary film making, music performance, bioscience enterprise, restorative justice, criminal justice, social work, politics and international studies, infection biology and advanced immunology.
