Sir Geoff Palmer
The trustees of SIET are greatly saddened to learn of the passing of our colleague, Sir Geoff Palmer. Sir Geoff had served as a trustee of SIET since 2018 and was reappointed to another five year term in 2023. Over the years, he made a huge contribution to SIET, which was in turn part of his much larger contribution to Scottish academic, public and civic life more generally.
Geoff’s commitment and passion as an educator, scholar and campaigner came through in everything he did. We will miss his insight, his guidance and his unwavering commitment to education as a means for not just understanding the world but changing it.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Geoff’s family and friends, as well as the very many lives he touched as an educator and as a powerful voice for a more just society.
